My name is Toby Tottle. Based at one end of the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire, England, I am a hand weaver and wool spinner working entirely with traditional tools.
I spin wool on the only commercially working Spinning Jenny in the British Isles, and I am one of only a handful of weavers left in the UK producing cloth for apparel, upholstery & other uses on a traditional shuttle handloom. I was also lucky enough to train under the watchful eye of Hugh Jones at Knockando Woolmill in North East Scotland in the use of the 1870s Self-Acting Spinning Mule and carding set. See Country Life article on the right. "The rhythmic clatter of handlooms would have been a familiar sound to Salopian* villagers for generations.
